Born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in London, UK, I moved to New York in 2011. I have always had a love for movement and how one can move and express and release their thoughts and feelings through movement. I attended Performing Arts Conservatories, and then moved on to a professional dance career in the UK & USA. .
During my dance training in university, I was introduced to Pilates, and found myself taking private Pilates sessions daily to help strengthen an injury that had occurred. My dancing technique improved tremendously! I was shocked! Who knew that such minimal movement could strengthen my entire body so quickly, I immediately wanted to learn more!
Alongside dancing professionally, I certified in Pilates and Yoga. I was training in two different movement methods and dancing at the same time, I saw significant changes in my body. I felt stronger, lighter and more flexible. As a professional dancer I was used to endless injuries due to extreme body fatigue, and I no longer had that. The injuries that occurred during the years were no longer issues, and the body fatigue became less.
I started to teach private sessions at Pilates & Yoga Studios, Performing Art Schools and Physical Therapy Clinics. I worked with the injured and the healthy, the young and the old and I noticed a high percentage of clients had injuries due to not having balanced workouts. I was meeting more clients that wanted a challenging sweaty workout, but had pre-existing injuries and did not know how to workout safely, and so I developed a method.
My motto is ‘it’s all about balance!’ You must have strength and flexibility! When you have one without the other, that’s commonly when injuries occur. I create workouts that are based on Dance, Pilates and Yoga methods. I create a fluid flow of movements that are low impact, focused on form, challenging and will have you sweating in minutes. My goal is for all clients to feel challenged but to move with ease and without pain, to create balance, and therefore body fatigue and injuries are no longer issues.
When COVID hit NYC, I was asked by clients and friends to set up virtual sessions and to send weekly workout videos. I want to share the virtual Pilates workouts on a wider scale, so I created the digital studio. All workouts are at different levels of intensity, with safe movements that can be performed by anyone, with no equipment needed, and can be done from the comfort of your own home.
In July 2021, I opened NM Studio in NYC. I carefully designed NM Studio to be a fully equipped Pilates space that makes clients and instructors feel at home. We are building an amazing community of clients and instructors and I am forever deeply grateful.
